Rebuilding, Expanding and Installing Graveling a Driveway on Lakelse Lake Drive
This project on Lakelse Lake Drive was a straightforward but important earthworks job. The homeowner needed a more functional space behind the main driveway and around their shop and sheds. The existing surface had settled unevenly over time, making it harder to move equipment and maintain the area.
Our goal was to create a clean, level, and durable surface that would be easy to maintain and usable year-round. A proper driveway gravel installation is about more than just dumping material it requires preparation, grading, and compaction to ensure long-term performance.
What the Project Involved
The scope of work focused on three main areas:
Removing sections of the old driveway material
Regrading and leveling the area around the shop and sheds
Installing and compacting fresh crushed gravel
By addressing both the driveway and the surrounding work areas, we were able to give the property a cohesive, functional layout instead of patchwork fixes.
Removing Old Driveway Material
We began by excavating sections of the old driveway that had deteriorated or were no longer providing a stable base. Removing this material allowed us to correct low spots and uneven grades rather than simply building over existing problems.
This step is critical in any driveway gravel installation. Skipping proper excavation often leads to rutting, pooling water, and premature failure—especially in northern BC’s wet and freeze-thaw conditions.
Grading adding gravel and Leveling Around Buildings
Once the old material was removed, we focused on leveling the ground around the shop and sheds. These areas see frequent foot traffic and equipment use, so proper grading was essential.
Our team carefully shaped the area to:
Create smooth transitions between the driveway and buildings
Improve drainage away from structures
Maximize usable space around the shop and sheds
Good grading ensures that water doesn’t collect near foundations and that the surface remains stable throughout the year.
Installing Fresh Crushed Gravel
With the base properly prepared, we brought in new crushed material to rebuild the driveway and surrounding areas. The gravel was spread evenly and leveled to achieve a clean, uniform surface.
For this driveway gravel installation, attention to detail made all the difference. We took the time to fine-grade the material so the finished surface was smooth, functional, and visually clean.
Compaction for Long-Term Durability
After leveling, the gravel was thoroughly packed and compacted. Proper compaction locks the material together, reducing movement and helping the surface resist ruts and washouts.
This step is especially important for driveways and work areas that will see vehicle traffic. A well-compacted surface not only lasts longer but also requires less ongoing maintenance.
The Finished Result
The completed project transformed the back of the driveway and the areas around the buildings into a fresh, usable space. The new surface provides:
Improved access to the shop and sheds
Better drainage and reduced mud
A clean, professional-looking finish
What was once an uneven and tired area is now a solid, functional extension of the property.
Why Quality Earthworks Matter in Northern BC
In northern BC, driveway and yard surfaces take a beating from rain, snow, and freeze-thaw cycles. Investing in proper preparation and installation helps prevent recurring issues and saves money over time.
A well-executed driveway gravel installation ensures:
Reliable access in all seasons
Reduced maintenance and rework
Long-term stability in challenging conditions
